Former Kankakee County Sheriff Tim Bukowski is being honored by Kankakee County officials, who say they are renaming the sheriff’s administration building in honor of Bukowskl, who served as sheriff for 20 years before he retired three years ago. Bukowski was sheriff from 1996 to 2016. During his term, he was credited with advocating police transparency and helping shape state legislation to require videotaping of all law enforcement interviews. He was also considered instrumental in the construction of the administration building and the adjoining Jerome Combs Detention Center 15 years ago.
