New street lighting in downtown Kankakee is all about the city’s past. On Tuesday evening, there was an official lighting ceremony, after which the lights once again shone brightly in three blocks of Kankakee where they were ceremonially turned back on. The lights provide what is described as a canopy of optimism… not for returning the downtown district to what it once was, but rather for what the district is on its way to becoming. The lights were the finishing touches to the approximate $2 million infrastructure investment in the downtown district.
